Beth was the mother of five children. Beth had been feeling quite fretful lately and began to "medicate" herself by drinking several shots of whiskey each evening after she tucked her children into bed. After approximately nine weeks of this drinking routine, she finally realized that instead of helping her unwind and cope with her difficulties, drinking alcohol made her feel less restful when she awakened in the morning. This, in turn, made her feel even more tense all through the day.
After reflecting on her predicament for several weeks, Beth made up her mind to "open up" about her drinking problem with her closest friend. Indeed, about twenty-five minutes into their chat, Beth's friend Brooke, told her about an extremely supportive and skillful psychiatrist at the local drug and alcohol abuse treatment clinic. After talking to her friend, Beth without much ado got motivated to call the rehab center and make an appointment.
Six days later she eventually got to meet the doctor her best friend had talked about. After their brief introduction, Beth told the psychiatrist that ever since she and her former husband got divorced, she has been having a difficult time spiritually, psychologically, and financially.
As Beth was talking to the doctor, she highlighted the point that she truthfully believed that her former husband and she dated long enough to know each other well enough before they got married. After the children started to arrive, conversely, everything appeared to deteriorate. Moreover, both Robert and she started to drink, and their unhealthy and abusive drinking adversely affected their relationship, their finances, and their love for one another.
The doctor explained to Beth that the alcohol poisoning symptoms she has been going through are due to her excessive and hazardous drinking. The doctor also told Beth that her alcohol withdrawal symptoms are some of the more common symptoms of alcoholism and that the most effective solution for this is alcohol treatment.
After spending two months in inpatient alcohol rehabilitation, Beth was slowly but surely able to understand that the real origin of her tension and her depression was the fact that she had not resolved her bitter feelings she has for her former husband who had divorced her. In short, Beth let these feelings distress her to such an extent that she became a person addicted to alcohol.
Armed with these insights and with the meds her doctor prescribed, she eventually abstained from drinking, she began to feel significantly less depressed, and she started making more time for social activities with her family and friends. What is more, a few months after receiving rehabilitation from her doctor, began to date once again.
It was obvious that Beth had come a long way. In point of fact, just around seven months after she completed her rehab, she had finally laid the negative feelings of Robert, her ex-husband, to rest and was beginning to feel better about herself and more spiritually"alive" and psychologically "together" than she had ever felt in her life.
