As a wedding & affair planner, I am subject to more than my fair share of indignation & rage. You see, til people plan their first wedding day, they not ever think about how much weddings cost. They want to have cost-effective wedding ceremonies, yet they also want to have all of the glitz & glamor. The issue is that, even if you buy cost effective bridal gowns, inexpensive wedding cakes, inexpensive bridesmaid gowns, and all the rest, it will still add up to lots of money. The bottom line is that, if you wish to have that cost-effective wedding day, you have to be willing to make sacrifices.

I'm not saying that having affordable wedding ceremonies is impossible. If you're willing to have a small wedding ceremony with just a few of your very best friends there, you can do it for quite a rational price. You can make it distinctive by incorporating touches like top wedding songs. The problem is that, if having affordable wedding ceremonies is your intention, you need to plan everything around it. That means that you have to have a small guest list, make reservations at some cost-effective place, have some cost-effective wedding day dress, rent a tuxedo for the groom, & play top wedding songs on a less pricey sound system, generally scrimp and save at every opportunity. Some of my clients have actually taken their own wedding day photographs to save on the cost of hiring a wedding photographer!

The bottom line is that the most cost-effective wedding ceremonies are done in a judge's chambers. Everything else which you do costs further money. Some families go in to debt for years due to what they spend on throwing a grand, extravagant wedding. To me, it looks like a pity. When I meet clients who truly wish to have reasonably priced weddings, I tell them to have them in the back yard. That way, they can save on wedding day reservations - & play your top wedding songs on a boombox, if necessary! If they are truly ambitious, they can even cater it them-selves. If there are going to be more than 30 people there, however, this is normally not a very good idea.

I guess that it all really depends on what you expect from your wedding day. When I first got married, all I desired was some uncomplicated ceremony to bestow my love to my wife. If this is all that you wish as well, it will be very easy for you to plan some affordable wedding day. If, on the flip side of the coin, you want to have an extravagant party with all of your friends & family, you will have to pay for it.
